Invited Speech by Prof. Yamagata

Prof. Toshio Yamagata, foreign associated member of French Marine Academy ( l'Académie de Marine) and Principal Scientist of Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), was officially joined the NUIST Overseas Academician Workstation on January 1 2019.  

Dean and Prof. Chen Haishan, Prof. Luo Jingjia expressed warm welcome to the joining and collaboration of Prof. Yamagata and his colleagues with NUIST. Prof. Yamagata was also looking forward to further cooperation with NUIST via the research platform of ICAR/NUIST.

After the appointment ceremony, Prof. Toshio Yamagata along with Prof. Saji from University of Aizu, Dr. Doi and Dr. Morioka from JAMSTEC were invited to give academic speeches. Prof. Yamagata gave a lecture on the role of latent heat flux in subtropical climate change. Prof. Saji, Dr. Doi and Dr. Morioka gave speeches on the topics of "review of the complexity of ENSO", "application and improvement of the sintex-f system to predict the past, present and future seasonal climate" and "interdecadal change and predictability in the south Atlantic and south Indian oceans". Faculty and students of NUIST participated the speech and discussed various academic issues with Prof. Yamagata and his colleagues.
